Trumped (BBC)

Panorama (De Grote Post)

There must be hundreds of podcasts about Donald Trump by now, but none like this one. Not least because Anthony Baxter, its creator, had a personal beef with Trump and went to tell him that in person. But also because Trumped is not about his presidency or political career. Then what is it about? Golf!

According to the Scottish documentary filmmaker, “Trumped is a story about secret deals, vested interests, and political ambition,” but also “about ordinary people getting into unusual situations and standing up for themselves.”

In 2006, Donald Trump bought a piece of land in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, to build a golf resort. As a tribute to his Scottish mother, he claimed at the time. Except, perhaps he should have shown a little more respect for her homeland then, local residents and environmental organizations claim today.

Anthony Baxter would eventually make three (!) documentaries about it, for which he also got to Donald Trump himself. This year, he also made the excellent eight-part BBC podcast Trumped, which he discusses with Bart Dobbelaere, De Standaard’s head of podcasts.
