The Coldest Case in Laramie (Serial)

Panorama (De Grote Post)

Serial Productions, by now, is so much more than Serial, with which it all began in 2014. The production company continues to make new seasons of the series - the fourth premiered earlier this year. But it is now part of The New York Times and it also creates other (excellent) podcasts. Like The Trojan Horse Affair, for which Brian Reed dropped by DS Podcastfestival two years ago, or The Coldest Case in Laramie by Kim Barker, coming this year.

However, it must be said that Serial Productions returns somewhat to its beginnings with this: true crime. Only for a crime podcast, The Coldest Case in Laramie does not end how you would expect. But that is precisely what makes it such a strong podcast. That and the fact that former war correspondent Kim Barker is a born storyteller who drags you right into her investigation of an unsolved murder by saying that not Kabul but her hometown of Laramie, Wyoming, is the most dangerous place she has ever lived.

Kim talks with US-based Belgian reporter Elke Vanhaecke at the festival about her addictive podcast. And about what to do as a creator when a grandiose and sensational finale may not be in the books after all.

This talk is in English.
